About Me
I'm Brett Moorman — a Lake St. Louis woodworker, military veteran, and who spent 20 years in corporate America before finding that the most satisfying work happens in a shop with sawdust on the floor. Every piece I build is made to order, built to last, and meant to be used.
When you commission a piece from me, you're getting something built specifically for your space. I use solid hardwoods — walnut, cherry, white oak — and proper joinery because that's what makes something last. If you're in the St. Louis area and have a project in mind, I'd love to talk about it.
My Craftsman's Journey
Built From the Ground Up
Over the past three years I've spent nearly every evening and weekend learning the craft: reading, practicing, building, and gradually upgrading from that first set of Lowe's tools into a full working shop.
I earned my skills the old-fashioned way — through repetition, mistakes, and an honest appreciation for the material. Most of what I've built has gone to family and friends, which is exactly how it should be when you're learning. Every piece taught me something.
How it started
A few years ago, I searched every furniture store I could find for an entertainment center that would fit my space. Nothing came close. So I did what any reasonable person would do — I bought a miter saw, a table saw, and a set of plans from the internet, and built it myself.
That first project changed everything. The moment it was finished, I wasn't thinking about the furniture anymore. I was already thinking about what to build next.
The Way I Work
I prefer joinery over fasteners wherever the project allows. Miter joints, dovetails, box joints, lap joints, mortise and tenon — the right joint for the right application. It takes longer, but the result is something that holds together by design, not just hardware.
I believe in letting the wood do the talking. I'd rather work with a beautiful piece of walnut, cherry, or white oak than stain cheaper material into something it isn't. Grain, figure, and natural color are part of the design — not something to hide.
The end result is furniture and handcrafted goods that are built to last and made to be used.
What I Make
From jewelry boxes and cutting boards to end tables, benches, porch gliders, and custom built-ins — if it's wood and it belongs in your home, I'm interested in building it.
